History
The St. Marks Missionary Baptist Church is an Historic fellowship organized over 94 years ago. It is noted for its rich family heritage as well as a firm foundation of biblically teaching and Christ centered preaching. As a missionary Baptist church St. Marks has faithfully supported ministry through our prayers and financial contributions both Home and abroad.
One of the greatest strengths of the St. Marks Church has been its family-oriented ministry. We have weathered the storm and trials because of the stability God has provided us as a family unit. Many members currently on roll are extensions of three or four generations. The Baptist Covenant of which we support emphasizes the importance of family worship and devotions.
St. Marks has been blessed over the course of its 94 years history to have had only 4 Pastors:1928-1945 Rev. C. M. Gordon; 1946-1947 Rev. Frank Floyd; 1947-1987 Rev. Freeman R. Williams; including our current servant Sr. Pastor Percy Harper who served as interim in 1987 and was fully elected 1988. This has provided a continuity and harmony that many other churches have not had the benefit of experiencing due to multiple turnovers and congregational splits.
On our 90th Anniversary we adopted the saying
“FAITHFUL IS OUR GOD” and we will continue to praise and worship Him in the future of St. Marks for his faithfulness.
Pastor’s Vision
In response to the Love of God towards us, that each member of the body of Christ might grow to become an effective tool in the hands of the Lord as we reach out to others and bear witness of His goodness, His Love, and His grace.
Preamble
In order to establish one body in Christ to fulfill the commands and commission of Jesus and see that the life of the body is lived in an orderly manner, we therefore establish this statement of faith and constitution.
Mission Statement
The mission of the St. Marks Missionary Baptist Church, composed of baptized believers who show a personal commitment to Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord is to be a redemptive fellowship through the power of the Holy Spirit, growing towards Christian maturity through worship, hearing the proclamation of the word, and witnessing of the “Good News” of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We must nurture and educate one another so that the ministry to the whole world might be realized through EVANGELISM…
